I know this is going to come as a complete shock to those who have not been following my posts since December but, experts are now claiming that the Mayan calendar doesn’t mark the end of time. Oh really? The Post and Courier.com offers this evidence.
“Archaeologists, anthropologists and other experts met Friday in the southern Mexico city of Merida to discuss the implications of the Mayan Long Count calendar, which is made up of 394-year periods called baktuns.
Experts estimate the system starts counting at 3114 B.C., and will have run through 13 baktuns, or 5,125 years, around Dec. 21. Experts say 13 was a significant number for the Mayans, and the end of that cycle would be a milestone — but not an end.”
I remember publishing an article on the old Global Paranormal website about an author who had gone over the math with the Mayan calendar and determined that the end date was added up wrong and the actual date was in 2015. Pretty sweet for him since he is able to sell that book for at least four years even if time does end. So we should expect that a new theory or calendar will be found that extends our life expectancy another several years. Oh wait, they did find another calendar and it still doesn’t end.
There are several things that could happen in or near our solar system that will wipe out life on this planet. Space is a pretty violent place at times. Why don’t we worry more about that? Could it be that we don’t get much, if any, warning in that scenario? Could it also be that authors can’t hype that scenario like they have done with the Mayan calendar prediction to generate book sales?
The Mayan civilization did not predict the end of time with it’s calendar. It was simply the end of a cycle. So I will be expecting Christmas gifts from you all this year. No getting out of it.
